do young women in Korea like to study Tae Kwon Do or other Martial arts?

I had an ESL student from Korea named MIn Hee, she was tall and mild mannered, yet she did a kick that could have knocked a person out cold. She did this during break time, I was the teacher and yes I am sure I gave her an A+ for the class. I did not want to got to the hospital...So do some/ many women take TKD or martial arts in South Korea, I am wondering??

  1. Yes, many females take martial arts here in Korea. Because of their simply being female I am not knowledgeable as to whether or not they're treated, or taught, equally. Every day I see students, some very young, wearing their Taekwondo uniforms. I sometimes wonder if the women/girls are taking it because they are truly interested, or whether Mom and Dad are taking an active role with "persuading" them to take it. But, you only gave her an A+? Seems to be that you should have also told her that she was excused for the remainder of class, too.
  2. I'm a young adult woman and I take Taekwondo. 1/4 of the class is usually young girls. I know a lot of parents put their daughters in Taekwondo if they feel they are very shy and quiet. I guess they think it might get them out of their shell. A lot of girls are just into martial arts so they take Taekwondo.
