Is it true that the original bare knuckle English boxing influnced Chinese martial arts?

This link here states that classical English puglism influnced Wing Chun and other Chinese martial arts. http://redrebelmartialarts.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-train-with-adam.html Some other websites even stated that backfists and hammerfists were introduced to Wing Chun and other Chinese martial arts from classical English bare knuckle fist fighting. The boxing we see today had ''nothing'' to do with influencing Chinese martial arts! The original bare fisted English boxing did!Bare Knuckle English boxing IS a DIFFERENT martial art from the boxing we see today! The boxing we see today is a sissified version of the old English bare knuckle boxing! The old English bare knuckle boxing allowed kicking, wrestling techniques, dirty tricks such as eye gouging, and even backfists and hammerfists! The old English bare knuckle boxing even used different types of punches that were vertical instead of horizontal!

  1. There's no way that's even possible. Martial arts styles were brought to the West from the East by people traveling over trade routes. Chinese martial arts had been very well established for thousands of years, this includes Chinese boxing. The fighting styles in the east are much harder hitting than anything the west has come up with. While there might have been some form of boxing in the West, it was the eastern cultures that influenced and refined western fighting styles.
  2. Don`t listen to A M.Yes,classical Englis boxing influenced Chinese martial arts.
  3. Maybe modern WC has some boxing and is even starting to have some BJJ in it but I doubt that when WC was created that it was influenced by boxing but who knows, many techniques look the same so its fun to assume, i dont think it matters a whole lot as to individual fighting ability
  4. Possible to some extant maybe but hammer fists and back knuckles are part of chinese martial recorded history long before they had any contact with the western world. If there was any influence I would lean more to the body hook and upper cut.
