Why do some Japanese Martial artists consider the Chinese martial arts ambiguous?
Public Comments
- like you said, "some". we cant control the thoughts and actions of everyone, so there's likely to be some different individuals in this case.
- could you not flip this question round and ask the same of japanese martial arts in the eyes of the chinese, or the koreans, or the thais or who ever else? there all ambiguous to some extent arent they?
- Maybe it's because there are many more Chinese styles and arts than in Japan. I think karate is great, but wing chun, tai chi are more effective - I have studied all three to a reasonable standard, but go with what you like, and don't forget Japan and China have a warring past...so it's likely they both diss the other!!
- you will find martial artists in any style who dislike other styles, dont let their dislike stop you from learning unless they make a valid point instead of just saying its ambiguous and leaving you at that
- You said it yourself. only SOME feel that way. MOST do not no more so that reverse that. Its not the art its the artist.
- It's a generalisation, but most Japanese arts are "external" - that's to say they rely on physical strength and power - this makes it easier to understand the mechanics of the movements, though you can be at a serious disadvantage if you're not as physically strong as your opponent. On the other, hand most Chinese arts are "internal" - that is they yield to an attack, instead of meeting it head on, and then redirect the incoming force - this makes the mechanics much harder to understand as all the power is hidden internally. This type of art gives the advantage to the "little" guy, as the strong ones tend to rely on their physical strength and come in hard, which only serves to give you more to work with.
- elaine d has obviously never had a fight
- Lack of understanding.
- Hi there i think some martial artists preach about there own style and criticise others. A lot of this is to do with the fact that no one likes to admit there style has flaws and lets be honest all styles do. Its a bit like the bloke who buys a crappy car but wont admit it and defends his choice of automobile to the death. Very silly when you think about it but were all guilty to some degree. All arts are good and all arts are bad. If a martial artist wants to train for the rest of his life with his eyes closed then so be it. Big fish in little ponds anyone? Best wishes idai
- There are always those who feel the need to disparage others. They think that the only way to build themselves up is to tear others down.
- Some do, some don't, its that way between all arts.
- ill be pretty honest .. im taking shaolin kung fu right now and KUNG FU really refers to all chinese martial arts.. and their's many different varieties.. furthermore anything developed by 1.3 billion people is very hard not to be ambiguous
