I want to jog/climb/walk the Great Wall of China. Which is the longest restored section?

I'm in my gap year, and I've been hitting martial arts hard. Soon (march-ish) I'm doing 8 weeks Martial Arts training at an Academy in China. While I'm out there I figure I might as well see the wall as well, and it'd be great to come home and boast about jogging the longest length of it possible. Does anyone know what/where the longest section is, and how long it is?

  1. I think that you'll find it nearly impossible to jog the Great Wall. Most sections of the Wall are made up of very uneven (often very large) steps. Many sections are dilapidated and crumbling, too. Not ideal jogging conditions. It is beautiful, though, and definitely worth the visit. Hiking will undoubtedly give you a good workout. I recommend you check out Si Ma Tai as opposed to Ba Da Ling. Not as many tourists, an you will have a bit more freedom to wander. You may also want to check out Shanghaiguan (where the Great Wall meets the Sea). A little touristy, but very nice.
  2. My favourite part is Mu TianYu - not yet overpopulated by tacky souvenirs and airconditioned coaches. Also I agree with Peaches Shanhaiguan (where the Great Wall meets the sea) is worth visiting if u have time - not near to Beijing tho! PS If you're interested in Martial Arts try to visit ShiYan. In the mountains nearby there is a Buddhist Temple that specialises.......breathtaking!
