How to get to Japan/China?

Ok. So I am planning a trip to go to either China or Japan next summer to study martial arts there and maybe Chinese medecine. Does anybody have any advice on how I could make this happen? Maybe some program that I could go with for some time, and then break off to spend the rest of my tme training. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Well I am planning on doing this before college so I think it rules out teaching. Any other ideas? Thanks for those ideas anyways.

  1. Many colleges have International programs. You usually need to have already earned your AA or AS though. That usually takes 2 years. Start with the colleges in your state, then work your way out from there if needed. It isn't going to be cheap. Good luck.
  2. It depends on what kind of martial are you are talking about. If you are just thinking about the know kind, then you are much better off just take a course in the US. Also, Chinese medicine is not able to be learn from anywhere. There are a lot of fake ones, and Chinese medicine is serious business, you end up have a degree equivalent of a M.D. It is complicated.
  3. Go to the embassy and tell them you want to teach english.
  4. Teaching English is a good route to go. You have to have a degree or a type of certification. I'm not sure what the certification entails, but if you just google "teaching English in Japan or China" you'll get the info you need. I've been to both countries and I would recommend Japan over China just simply because it is a more modern and cleaner country then China, and the Japanese pay much better.
  5. If you really want to go email me. I know people who can hook you up with teaching positions and martial arts schools in China or Japan.
  6. http://dojoontheseas.com/Home_Page.php This is a site that was mailed to me (snail mail) that I inadvertently signed up for at my last tournament. They offer may cruses with theme based training. I don't know if they offer anything your looking for but if you give them a call I'm sure they'll let you know. Also there are many packages monasteries offer in China, but most are very expensive and offer no hospitality features (instead of a nice warm bed and good food, it's cold hard mattresses and rice with steamed vegetables everyday. not bad if your a rabbit, which I'm not).
