do young women in Korea like to study Tae Kwon Do or other Martial arts? I had an ESL student from Korea named MIn Hee, she was tall and mild mannered, yet she did a kick that could have knocked a person out cold. She did this during break time, I was the teacher and yes I am sure I gave her an A+ for the class. I did not want to got to the hospital...So do some/ many women take TKD or martial arts in South Korea, I am wondering??
I am looking for live in martial arts programs in Japan and Korea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks? I am already familiar with the Yoshinkan Aikido programs. I am looking for Karate, Kempo, Hapkido, and other Aikido programs that may exist. Housing does not have to be provided but is preferred if available. The program must be training intensive. Thank you.

fictional martial arts movie id help: america vs korea in the tournament? what movie is this?? american team is going to face the korean team in a major tournament. the favored leader of the korean team has previously faced the favored leader of the american team (korean-american guy)'s brother, and killed him in the tournament. there is much tension leading up to the face-off in the tournament. in the final battle, the korean american guy can avenge his brother's death by killing the korean guy but chooses not to because the opponent is in an already weakened state. during the awards ceremony, the korean guy limps over to the korean american guy and hands him his medal, and says that he thinks of him as a brother. what movie is this??
Improving vertical jump height for martial arts? I am a 15 year old female with no injury history. I am a martial artist in mainly Taekwondo but I have dabbled in other martial arts. I am currently in Korea for Taekwondo training. I have been training in Taekwondo since I was born practically (my family owns a couple tkd schools). I have been training in Korea for a month now and have started working on the 540 under the supervision of two members of K Tigers. I am currently 130 lb and 5'5" My goal is to do a 540 spinning hook. So I need to increase my vertical jump drastically and my speed also. The speed needs to come from the feet as well as the hips. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ihKE1RxInFw&mode=related&search= I also want to ask about the efficiency of weights. (ankle weights etc.) Do wearing them while climbing stairs and regular routine help?
Which country do you think has the best martial arts? And out of that country which is your favorite? Japan, China, Korea, Brazil, Philippines, U.S.A., ect. My friend and I were arguing about this so we decided to have outside opinions. I happened to have a few favorites. 1. Japan-Ninjutsu 2. Japan-Aikido 3. China-Wushu 4. Korea-Tang Soo Do
mixed martial arts and tae kwon do? both MMA and TKD are sport oriented (although taekwondo at its heart really isn't just nowadays many people think it is). They both have rules, they both have a ring, and they both have many sport oriented schools. however, everyone bashes taekwondo, saying it is "too sport oriented," when really it was started as a combat system in Korea. MMA, however, was MADE for sports. so why do people bash TKD and not MMA? i just don't understand it, if you can shed some light on it i would appreciate it.
The best martial arts among all martial arts.? Which is the best martial arts: 1. Kung-fu(china) 2. Aikido(japan) 3. Karate(Japan) 4. Judo(Japan) 5. Taekwondo(Korea) Please don't answer "____ is best for _____years old." These martial arts are the most useful. Please don't add the martial arts that uses weapons. Also, please explain why. I asked this question out of my interest since I have studied most of them and if its by majority....it would be unknown. In my country they say its Taekwondo. In others they say its Kung-fu, Aikido and others.
What is (or are) the primary martial arts styles that come from or are practiced in Thailand.? If you happened to catch the Miss Universe Pageant broadcast on worldwide television last night live from Viet Nam, you may have seen that the Winner of the National Costume competition came from Thailand. The contestant --Gavintra Photijak -- struck a menacing martial arts pose for her publicity stills, as well as when she first posed for the broadcast cameras in the opening parade of contestants. She was definately very eye-catching and different. See her picture here: http://www.missuniverse.com/mainevent/costume.html The history behind the development and spread of various martial arts styles and forms across the Orient and indeed, the world, is rich and varied. Tae Kwon Do comes from Korea (correct me if I am wrong). My style of Karate (Shotokan) comes from Japan. But what is the style of martial arts that comes from Thailand, and was it first developed in a neighboring country? Or was it totally the brain child of some Thai Master from centuries past?
Do women study Hapkido in Korea? I know that a lot of Women in Korea study Tae Kwon Do, but I was wondering if Women study Hapkido or Tang Soo Do in Korea. These two Korean martial arts are very devastating.....excellent for self defense. Logan your answer is awesome and God Bless Korea, I hope I get more answers, at least this is an appropriate and positive question about Korea(:(:
What martial art to take next...? I mainly do Taekwondo but I have dabbled in some other martial arts. I understand that Taekwondo is very... how should I put it.... umm has sever flaws. I am planning to continue my parent's Taekwondo business (do not bash our tkd. unlike other schools we are very tradtitional to the art, not merely commercial, and do not deal very much with "sport" taekwondo.) I am 15 years old. Currently I am in Korea for Tkd training as well as Kendo training. I would like some suggestions on what martial art to take next and the order I should probably take it. I have done some Hapkido, Kung fu, Tai chi, and Judo but not enough to fully grasp all concepts of the art. I want to slowly start and attempt to master the basics of most martial arts. So... I need help with a starting point. I am thinking of doing Hapkido, Judo, or Jujitsu first. Later moving onto Kung fu (I will be going to taiwan for some time for tkd training later) Muay Thai I am considering but... it seems awkward with the rest.
martial arts? what is korean ninjutsu called and how popular is it in Korea. also, how similar is hwarando and tae kwon do to ninjutsu

Does Hwa Rang Do teach stealth also? Reason for this qesition is I a martial artist that wants to stay in the Korean martial arts. Korea at one time had ninjas called the Hwa Rang. But Now the Art is looks funner than Ninjutus.
Is there a martial art that could be considered "American"? I've always wondered that. Brazil has BJJ and Capoeria, the UK has catch wrestling and Queensbury boxing, France has Savate, China has wushu, Isreal has krav maga, Korea has TKD and Hapkido, Japan has Karate, Judo and many other arts, Thailand has Muay Thai, and Indonesia has Penjak. However, for a country that's 230 years old and has had much conflict in its history, there seems to be no martial art that could be considered truly "American". The 2 arts that could probably be considered the closest to being considered American martial arts would be "Dirty Fighting" (Which are simply banned Queensbury boxing rules and a few rudimentry wrestling moves combined) and American Kempo, which has a philosiphy that is American, but it's hardly a widespread art in this country as TKD is in Korea and BJJ and Capoeria is in Brazil. If I'm sounding ignorant about other fighting styles that are taking root in the USA, please correct me. Thank you :) http://www.martialtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28561&page=3 How to disarm "Pistol-Fu".
who does a martial art? who here does a martial art,i do taekwondo, thats from korea
Kendo issue is too famous, and now Xmas, soccer issues. Why Korean lies that they have the roots of those? I'm an historian mostly work on Asian histories. So fortunately I've seen tons of literatures enough not to be a credulous sheep about those asian cultures, and I think it's quite funny seeing Koreans inroads foreign cultures such as Soccoer, Xmas, All Languages, British people, European cultures, Chinese cultures, Japanese cultures and its original martial arts are Originated in Korea they say so.... Too me and all historians this phenomenon is just hilarious but I simply wonder why they keep inroading foreign cultures with absolutely no evidences. Although I'm clean and familier to official documents and literatures of history as I have seen in my eyes, I wish if someone could tell me what's the matter with them. I have spoken to Chinese historian about this "taking overs" cuz I thought Chinese and Japanese might know Korean people more than I do, but I guess not... Excuse for my poor English but I really need help from someone who's familier to thier actions. hi scratchy_joe and thanks for the answer but... hapkido is a copy of Japanese aikido..... that introduced to Korea during annexation 1910 to 1945. Koreans are asserting it's originated in Korea around AD.372 but there was no Korea in this ancient times. We clearly know Fuyu tribal lived in that area BC37 to AD668 and they were ruined by ancient China. so... there is no roots of Korean culture but ancient Chinese culture was shared.
Is there a Korean community living in Edinburgh? We are the Edinburgh branch of the World Kuk Sool Won Assoc, a tradional martial art from Korea. We will be host to the Scottish Tournament And Masters Exhibition to be held at Meadowbank stadium on Sat 24th May 2008. We would welcome input from the Korean community, anything from recipes of traditional food to VIP,s who may wish to attend the event. Many thanks, yours in anticipation. Andrea.
Would this be a good training plan? I have available to take TKD (which I am taking) Hapkido, and Kumdo. The TKD is offered MWF, and I can usually catch 4 or so 1 and a half hour long classes a week (there are 6 total a week, for 40 dollars a month.) Hapkido is offered all weekdays for 40 dollars a month. Kumdo is offered MWF, for 50 dollars a month. I was thinking about taking TKD M and F, Hapkido T and T, and Kumdo on W. (Assuming my work schedule permits. Would I benefit from mixing it up like this, or should I stick with just one or 2 of them? Keep in mind that I am just starting, but I am in Korea, and these are Korean martial arts...I don't know if I will ever get the opportunity again to study KMA in Korea, or for that matter, any MA in it's country of origin.
Dim hsueh & hung sha dzung, are they real? I born Japan, study several karate dojo. My lover Kyojin know Japan, China, Korea, Tibet martial arts. I tell him I hear China man touch Japan man on hand make him vomit, have diarrhea weeks later. Kyojin say intestine have chi meridian on hand joint of thumb-forefinger, Chinese use dim hsueh on it. Also hear Chinese not touch, just point hand at inside man's knee, cause liver illness. Kyojin show me dummy and drawings use in acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustuiin, show liver chi pass on inside knee. Kyojin say man use hung sha dzung this time. He say he study them, not know if they real or not. He have some books. I not read much Chinese. Kanji copy Chinese writing, verbs different, we use Katakana-Hiragana phonetics. One seem say touch foot right time make man die in 2 years. I not believe all this. You think one make man sick or die just with touch or not touch, just point hand at him? Kyojin say some men say Bruce Lee killed by dim hsueh or hung sha dzung.
Does Tai Chi actually work? and if so how far can i actually go...? i've been traveling around the world and learning a lot about martial arts and forms of self defense. whenever i reach a traditional dojo/dojang(for koreans) they tend to speak of some form of energy mainly chi/tai chi and something like inner meditation. i've devoted a lot of time and money into my learning and understanding of martial arts, and in many parts like korea and china and some colonies in japan everyone seemed to have a different spiritual side to it...
I understand that tae kwon do teaches great kicks but is it usefull .? I mean it is one of the most popular martial arts but can those kicks be properly integrated into a fight situation. Also is it better in Korea, could someone froma korean school defend themselves better than a U.S. student. any info would help.
Do you realize that Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial sport in Malaysia? Its also a fact that Malaysia is the FIRST country that General Choi taught outside Korea, which makes Malaysia the 'home' for Taekwondo outside Korea. Malaysians are quite fortunate to have great masters of this art and sport as there are many well known teachers who are direct students of General Choi, founding Father of Taekwondo. Gindy, you're right, Karate is too... and we are fortunate enough to have great masters from authentic lineages. MLP, Taekwondo became a lousy art because of lousy kids who abuse the art and have lacked in discipline. Check this guy out... He utilizes each and every techniques correctly and have efficiently used it in K1 competitions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBdtzh8y7sc Lousy art or lousy guess? Bronzedgal, throughout my 17 years of experience so far... most TKD-ists are more prone to joint pain and injuries due to their snapping movements (almost similar to Karatedoka). This becomes worse if instructors are not able to supervise carefully correct body mechanics and structure of techniques applied. BTW, MLP... I'm not talking about which art is 'best' or 'worse'... its a matter of choice, just like religion. I bet you've realized this by now... I've studied different arts throughout my life and there are no 'prefect' styles that I've found. Its about efficiency and application of techniques which makes them effective, not mere 'names'... like religion too... Do you really think that you'll make others realize the truth with your approach of criticisms?
is king to ki and good sport fighting martial art? a guy in my area teaches it (Pan ahrang lee) he exposed to be like the best in all of korea at his time and has like 5 titel belts
Is it possible for me to bee a mma fighter? currently im on high school wrestling team and i attend a Korean Martial Arts school that incorporates taekwondo, hapkido, jujitsu, sadu mu sul, bulkyu mu sul, koong jung mu sul, falls and meditation. Your opinion on Taekwondo? I have been studying Taekwondo since I was four years old. I am 19 now and hold a 3rd degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo. Next year i will be traveling to Korea to test for my 4th degree. I run a school at my college. I have done other martial arts but I would like to know the general consensus of Taekwondo. I have been studying Taekwondo since I was four years old. I am 19 now and hold a 3rd degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo. Next year i will be traveling to Korea to test for my 4th degree. Jiu-jutsu a good idea? I took it when I was in elementary school and I absolutely loved it. I really want to get back into it. I am currently stationed in South Korea and they teach it along with many other forms like Hap ki doh and Tang su doh (sorry for the spellings). The problem is that in less than 3 weeks I will be having reconstructive surgery on my knee for a torn ACL from a soccer game. The recovery can tak 6-9 months sometimes. Anybody who has had this kind of injury or anything like it that to this day practice martial arts, can you give me any advice on when to start up or whether to bother?
Should I add anything to my eclectic Wu Shu style? Bruce Lee (Li Jun-Faan) studied Wing Chun, but he later developed his own "Jit Kun Do". A Sifu Hung combined his Tiger and his wife's Crane plus some moves from the 3 other Shaolin animals and Hsing-I's 5 Element Fist to create the best of the 5 Shaolin family styles. I add styles of Japan, Korea & Tibet to my "Wu Da Wu Shu". "Wu Da" = 5 Strikes, for 5 symbolizes completeness in China, e.g. 5 peoples, 5 music notes, 5 elements, etc. Wu Shu means Martial Arts. (Kung Fu denotes Great Achievement in any field.) To start you off, I tell you one of my 5 Hits is Chang Jiu Shou Da = Long-Distance Hand Blows. For this, Choi Li Fut's "Windmill Fists" are best, but Northern Shaolin techniques are close. I use about 50% CLF and 40% NS. The other 10% is a mixture of other Chinese Shaolin styles, Japanese Goju Kai, Korean Tae Kwan Do, Tibetian Pak Hak Pai, etc. My other 4 strikes are Jung Jiu Shou Da, Dwan Jiu Shou Da, Di Ti & Gau Ti. What are they? What styles should I use for them? I once lived about 2.5 blocks from where Bruce Lee was born. He died on my 5th birthday and has been a big influence in my life. A cousin of Bruce Lee wanted to make a movie. I easily beat him with only my left hand, so he offered me the starring role. This is a difficult question, so I'll give another hint. My Dwan Jiu Shou Da= Short-Range Hand Strikes. Wing Chun is great for this. After years of practice, I saw ways to add my own original improvements to it. Modified Wing Chun is adequate here, but I like to broaden my style, so I added something from Japanese Ku Teh Kiru said to be the deadliest type of ninjutsu. Another hint is Gao Ti = High Kicks. I find Chinese Northern Shaolin and Korean Hap Ki Do are great for them. I use some from various other styles, but these 2 are the main ones.
Where to train...? Where is a good place to train in various martial arts such as Kung fu, Jujitsu, Judo, etc. This summer I am currently in Korea for Taekwondo and Kendo training so the training can be almost anywhere as long as it is in the US and most of Asia. (If there is a good place somewhere else please tell me!) This is becuase my dad has connections with martial artists in those countries. I am a 15 year old female studying mainly WTF Taekwondo and plan on taking over the family business in taekwondo. Also I don't just want to only use my dad's name (9th dan. Student of WTF president. Undefeated champion of some division. Won some President Cup. Trained Taiwan's military) The list goes on and on. Pretty hard to beat...>> But that's not what I'm asking. I want to learn for myself. This means I must go out and learn more. Plus I don't want to have one of those commercial dojangs that can't teach. Thank you~ I will email you if interested. Please leave details! >.<
Husband not adjusting to life in the U.S. What should I do? My husband immigrated here 5 months ago from Korea. We met and married in Korea. I lived in Korea for 3 years. Since he's been here, he's had a rough time. He doesn't speak English and he doesn't have any friends. I have tried everything to keep him busy....english classes, martial arts classes, gym memberships, introducing him to other Koreans. We're still waiting for his work permit, so he hasn't been able to work....although it may be impossible for him to get a job for awhile since he can't speak English. He still hasn't even gone to the supermarket by himself! He's depressed now and has told me he wants to go back. I'm at my witts end....I don't know how to keep him happy. I always try to get him out of the house but he refuses, just wants to stay inside watching T.V. He can't go back to Korea yet because of his process of waiting for a green card. I don't want to drop my life here. I'm months away from getting my Master's degree. How do I cheer him up? Okay, I'll explain the green card thing, so the old idiot "Mit" below will understand: he wants to go and visit Korea (which I'm all for). Problem is he is adjusting his status here and if he leaves prematurely, he won't be able to get back in the U.S. I don't want his visa revoked forever. Mit--you are a grouchy old jerk. I'd do anything for my husband and I know what it feels like to live in another country. I'm simply asking how can make the transtion here easier for my husband. And I never boasted how "great the U.S" is. In fact, I told him how difficult the move would be. Thank you for a useless contribution.
Single Taekwondo girls? My name is Michael Im a martial arts instructor was just wondering are there any females whom share the same intrest if so email me Im certified thru the Kkukiwon in korea Michaelmyersrocket@yahoo.com
Oh my gosh! Is my friend okay?!?!?!? we were at church yesterday, after small group bible study, and we were playing around wrestling each other. then my friend wrestle this one new kid that had just come from another country (korea). My friend picked this kid up and threw him on the ground, and when he hit the ground we heard a loud thump. i thought he might of broken the wood floor or something, but then i looked at his arm and his shoulder area was popping out. He landed on his arm. I do martial arts, so i was trying to pop it back in, but i couldn't find the place the shoulder popped. If this kid didn't pop his shoulder, then did he rip his tendons or deep brusing or what?

Can Someone Who Barely Speaks English Join the U.S Army? He's South Korean He can listen and speak English pretty O.K, but he has very limited reading and writing skills (very beginner). He really wants to join and speak to a recruiter. He has over 5 years military experience in south korea (Special Forces), so I thought his background might help. He's in perfect health (maybe except smoking) and in his early 30's. He also has a martial arts background. He is also a legal permanent resident of the U.S (green card holder) How many written tests does he have to do? How can I help him get the process started? He is 33 years old. Is he too old? And, yes, he does have a high school diploma (but from a Korean high school).
